The IAPR technical committees on graphics recognition (TC10) and reading systems (TC11) are regularly organizing scientific events for the Document Analysis and Recognition (DAR) community, including the ICDAR flagship conference.
In addition to specific calls for bids to host one of the events, we encourage teams to announce their interest in organizing one of the following events:
- ICDAR: International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (annually; next possibility in 2029)
- DAS: International Workshop on Document Analysis Systems (satellite event of ICDAR in even years; next possibility in 2028)
- HIP: International Workshop on Historical Document Imaging and Processing (satellite event of ICDAR; next possibility in 2027)
- GREC: International Workshop on Graphics Recognition (satellite event of ICDAR in odd years; next possibility in 2027)
- SSDA: Summer School on Document Analysis (next possibility in 2027)
You may find the details of each specific call in the previous or future issues of this newsletter or in the respective websites of each event.

The International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR) is the flagship event of the International Association for Pattern Recognition, recognized as a leading conference in the field. It encompasses a wide range of topics where Pattern Recognition methods are applied in fields including Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Image Processing, Speech and Natural Language Processing, and Sensor Pattern Processing.
The 28th ICPR, to be held in 2026 from August 17th till August 22nd in Lyon, France, offers an excellent platform for students, academics, and industry researchers to foster new ideas and collaborations. IAPR’s inaugural VIRTUAL ICPR 2027
The International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) is pleased to introduce the first
VIRTUAL 29th International Conference on Pattern Recognition 2027

to occur between the IAPR’s flagship in-person ICPR conferences:
- 2026 28th ICPR Lyon, France
- 2028 30th ICPR Sydney, Australia
Papers will have the same length, reviewing, and quality as the in-person ICPRs. We anticipate about 500 papers. They will be published by Springer.
Why virtual?
- In-person major international conferences typically cost $3000 to attend - Only one person from a lab typically can attend (due to cost) - Mainly only authors attend (due to cost) - The environmental impact of travel - Visa problems are restricting ability to travel
An online conference reduces accidental face-to-face interactions. However, it does allow new possibilities. Innovations that we are trying are:
- many (50+ depending on the paper topics) smaller thematic sessions that allow easier interactions between and with authors. Delegates can attend as many or as few sessions as they wish.
- Sessions are concentrated over 5 hours, but spread across 5 days and 2 weeks to give delegates space for their normal professional lives
- Extensive recording, so delegates can catch up on sessions they missed due to concurrent sessions or timetable conflicts.
- Open the conference platform 1 week before the conference, to allow browsing of the abstracts, papers, and short and long videos. This will make it easier to identify thematic sessions to attend, and authors to contact (using each paper’s persistent chat interface).
- Low attendance cost. We aim for $400 for authors and $25 for non-authors at this non-profit conference.
